Original Game Rules
- Before you start, separate the blue, yellow, and red card decks. Then shuffle each deck.
- Deal six blue cards and six red cards to each player. But y’all hush – do not reveal these cards to the other players.
- Check your phones. The last person who called their Mama goes first and is “The Storyteller” for the round. Unless you’re playing this game with family, then Mama goes first because she is Mama.
- The Storyteller draws one yellow card and reads it aloud to the other players. The Storyteller then lays that card down so the other players can have a good look at it.
- Next, every player except for The Storyteller will finish the phrase by combining one of their blue cards with one of their red cards. The Storyteller looks away or closes their eyes as each of the players lays their red and blue cards face down in front of The Storyteller. When all the players have finished the phrase, The Storyteller opens their eyes, re-reads the yellow card, then reads all of the submitted red and blue cards aloud to the group.
- After The Storyteller has read all of the submitted cards, they have the honor of selecting the best phrase. It could be something you’ve heard your Mama say, or it could be something that was downright hilarious. Or both. It’s up to The Storyteller.
- The player who submitted the winning phrase for that round gets to keep the yellow card face down in front of them, ending the round.
- To begin the next round, every player (except for the previous Storyteller) should draw one red and blue card to replace the one they just played, and a new player becomes The Storyteller. You can go clockwise, counter-clockwise or cattywampus. It’s up to y’all!
- After a player has collected five yellow cards, they win the game!
